The progressive metal-oriented Magna Carta label assembled a tribute album dedicated to
Emerson, Lake & Palmer, with arrangers
Robert Berry and
Trent Gardner playing major roles in determining the music's direction.
Encores, Legends & Paradox varies wildly, not only because of typical tribute album problems (some artists sticking too close to the original versions, others not quite capturing its essential elements), but also because
Gardner's arrangements tend to be generic and ineffective. There are some good moments, and some decent ones below those, but digging them out might be more effort than many
ELP fans are willing to invest.
